In April of 1991, Clark Hagins and Greenhouse Effect struggled to find a permanent drummer; "We were basically a 2 piece band ,..bassist Rick Carmody "Ted" and myself" Says Hagins in 2022; "Subdue" was this song I had written,..just an exercise of basic songwriting stuff ,..just to "have a new song" ,..uh ,..something original ,..at the time,." ( LAUGHS ),.. "I REMEMBER ,..IT was a good song but I was struggling with the lyrics here or something ,..it wasn't writers block ,..it was something else,..i was trying to make a really good song that funny , ironic, and corny ,..maybe a bit like slowed down Zappa type idea,.. ( Laughs again ),..and it's funny 'because this song kinda picks up where "Hey Negrita"left off ,.. it's kinda Country / bluesy or something ,..but over the years, ..this track just kinda disappeared in G,e Lore ,..but lately in 2022, I found myself looking for it ,..and it was hard to find ,.I found a version finally ,.. at Dailymotion ( Laughs ),.. Somehow this one has gotten lost,..but its an ok song ,..maybe not one of my best ,..but it definitely has something ,.. almost reminds me of Neil Young or some shit,."

HAGINS says that the song came from an inspiration one day in 1991 when Hagins' was driving in his car in Bel Air California whilst taking a break from his lawn mowing gig; "I was out driving on Sunset Blvd ,..and I ran over this like pothole in the ground and my front left tire just like exploded and I lost control of the vehicle momentarily ,.. I nearly crashed right into a pole but somehow ,..I got control of the car and came to a rest in like this little green patch ,..of what i today call "Miracle space" ,..because as everyone knows ,..On Sunset, there is no side of the road,..its very dangerous ,..but somehow, my Guardian Angel found me a safe space,..and it was weird because I was driving really fast too ,..and there were tons of curves n' shit...." Hagins was tuck there for hours in the days of no cell phones and he began to walk "back' to Owlwood Estates,.. the big Beverly Hills mansion where he worked ,..as a Landscaper. "There were all these creeps pulling over offering me rides and I kept saying No and one of them was nearly hit by another car right in front of me ,..it was real dangerous " Says Hagins;
Eventually, Hagins and his brother Greg had the vehicle towed to some mechanic; "The dude literally told me that I had brand new brakes all around and I was like ,..Yeah dude,..i recently replaced them all,..not that long ago ,.." But that the one set of brake pads was ruined upfront or at least one of them and I was like"Ok bro,..just fix that one ,..and the dude was like "yeah and your front rim is hosed too but I think I can fix it ,..and I was like cool and I'll never forget,..i went in their office and filled out some form and everything ,.I gave them my ok to fix one brake pad upfront or two ,..if necessary ,..anyway ,..I thought the job would like be done the next day but it like took nearly like THREE FUCKING WEEKS ,.. and I'll never forget,..i kept callin' and callin' like daily on the phone ,.I mean ,.I needed my car n' shit,.. finally ,..one day ,.like nearly a month later, the car was fixed and when I went to get it,..they had my car like parked behind like 25 other cars so far back ,.like it was impossible to get to it ,..and I was like uh 'dude,..can you retrieve my car ?? ( Laughs ),..the dude got all mad and me and my brother Greg nearly got in a fight with the guy ,.. finally, my car was there before me ,.. and i'll never forget,.I sat down in the seat and there was like greasy auto parts sittin' there and I got like oil n' shit all over me and I was like "what the fuck ??" ,... and they attached some thing to my key that sais "New Car Time" or something ,..there was grease on the car,..and new dents that I had never seen ,.. and scratches ,..and my stereo was gone ,..and I realized then that it had been so long since I had seen the car,..that I had forgotten IF I even had a stereo !,.. then suddenly ,..the dude was right there ,..and he was handing me a bill that said like 4356.00 $ ,..and I was like WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT ?? I ONLY HAD one wheel with an issue ,..and he was like ,..the one mechanic dude told me to fix ALL YOUR BRAKES ,.. AND i WAS LIKE "NO ,." WHAT ??? THE FUCK ?? AND right there, I realized I was in some nightmare,..and my brother Greg was shaking his head and laughing ,..n' shit ,..and the dude was like 'Ok I'll tell ya what,..I'll cut the price in half and it will be just 2000 $$,..." And i was like 2000 $ huh ,..to fix one brake pad ?? and the dude was like ; "FUCK YOU THEN !! ,..TAKE YER FUCKIN' CAR AND GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE !" AND MY BROTHER WAS LIKE ; "HERE,.we;ll give ya like 300 $,.. and I remember I drove the fuck out of there carefully,..and I never looked back ,..and I'll never forget all these weirdo mechanic dudes covered in black oil staring at me ,.and i remember i immediately thought of Zappa "Joe's Garage" ,..and I went write home to Bel Air in my room and I wrote "Subdue" ,..
Later on, I saw my brother Greg and he was like ,..those guys were like threatening me back there,,..Clark ,..I'm lucky I made it outta there,..i gave em' like 200.00 $$ it's all I had,.. and I was like ; "Sorry bro,..welcome to my existence "
